How to create a Metagroup in your Space?

Modified on Fri, 3 Oct at 12:30 PM

Select the groups you want to add to your meta-group. If the groups don't exist yet, you have to create them before setting up the metagroup. Then go to Metagroups and use the Create metagroup button (view screenshot below).

Follow these five steps to set up a meta-group:

  1. Basic Information: Create the meta-group by clicking on the "Create a metagroup" button and filling the name and basic information.
  2. Invitation Badges: Enable (or disable) the ability to invite members using specific badges.
  3. Select Groups: Add groups and order them to build the progression steps of your pathway.
  4. Badge Requirements: Define the progression rules between groups.
  5. Review: Get an overview of all settings and finalize the metagroup.

Once the metagroup has been created, please note that you can always change its settings later.

Step 1: Basic information

Fill in the Name and Description fields for the metagroup.

You must also specify whether members should be removed from their previous group when progressing to a new one, and whether they should be removed from the metagroup once they have completed the entire pathway. To do this, simply check the corresponding boxes. (view screenshot below)

Step 2: Invitation badges

The creator of the metagroup can specify whether member addition requires an invitation badge. To enable this feature, check the Enable invitation badges option (view screenshot below).

Important: When invitation badges is enabled, users who join through an invitation badge are automatically placed in the first group of the sequence. When this option is disabled, members must be manually added to the first group by an administrator.

Note: Even when invitation badges are enabled, you can still manually add new members and assign them to a specific group within the pathway.

Step 3: Select groups

Here you can select from your existing groups to build the metagroup pathway. You can reorder them using drag-and-drop functionality (view screen shot below).

Important: Any dynamic groups added to the metagroup will be automatically converted to manual groups.

Step 4: Badge requirements

Configure here the progression rules between groups in the pathway. Progression is based on earning specific badges according to the options shown below (see screenshot).

Note that each group in the pathway can have different badge requirements!

Step 5: Review

This step provides an overview of your metagroup settings. You can modify your configuration using the Previous button, or click Create metagroup to finalize setup (view screenshot below).
